As the heat waves continues, Menifee residents are reminded to stay indoors, take precautions to avoid heatstroke and remember to protect pets as well.
Temperatures today and tomorrow are predicted to reach highs between 106-110 degrees before a slight cooling trend begins on Wednesday. Many schools have canceled outdoor activities today. Prolonged exposure to the heat may cause severe health problems.
Residents are urged to remain indoors in a cool place and to drink lots of water. Pets should also be kept indoors when possible and given plenty of water. Avoid unnecessary physical exertion.
Sun City Concern has a cooling center open to residents from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. According to director Carol Sullivan, the center will be open on the weekends if temperatures top 100 and there is a demand for its use. The center is located at 26814 Cherry Hills Blvd. It provides TV, board games and books for residents' use.
The Kay Ceniceros Senior Center also offers many programs in its air-conditioned facility at the corner of Newport Road and Evans Road.
Residents can also look out for each other, especially for seniors, by checking on them during this heat wave.
