Each week of the school year, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Tennis player Madison Gray is a junior who "shows the leadership skills of a seasoned senior," said her coach, David McCoy. "I can always count on Matty to get the job done. That is a great card to have as a coach. She has the most positive attitude on the team and she is always ready to help a teammate." Madison excelled in matches against Lakeside and Elsinore last week.
Freshman cross country runner Conner Dmytriw set a personal record of 16:24 en route to winning his frosh boys race over 180 competitors Saturday at the Sunny Hills Wayne Walker Invitational.
Girls cross country runner Symone Carreno topped her personal best by 1:30 at the Sunny Hills Invitational to finish 13th overall.
Quarterback Pohaku Kaheaku-Paiva led the Wildcats football team to a 35-25 victory over Temecula Valley. He was 22 for 35 for 214 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. He also led his team in rushing with 19 attempts for 138 yards.
These athletes will be eligible for selection as Paloma Valley High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced next week.
