At 6:11 p.m. on July 17, officers from the Menifee Police Department responded to the report of a robbery in progress at the Kohl's department store at Countryside Marketplace in Menifee. Officers were told a male subject had been confrontational with the store's loss prevention officers in the parking lot, after they suspected several items had been stolen from within the store. The male, two female adults and three children fled the scene in a vehicle toward the Hemet area.
Soon after, the suspects arrived at a Winco grocery store in Hemet, police said, where they again stole merchandise. The male suspect was again confronted by a loss prevention officer and the suspect brandished a knife and made threats before fleeing from the area. Sheriff's deputies from the Hemet area were given the suspect vehicle information and located it in the area of Evans and Hewitt.
The three adult suspects were detained, positively identified, and stolen property from both stores was recovered.
Hemet Police Department booked the suspects into their facility and Child Protective Services responded and assisted with the children. The male was identified as Richard Nartates, 36, of from Hemet. The female adult suspects were identified as Yevette Nieves, 25, of San Jacinto and Jennifer Garcia, 24, of Santa Fe Springs.
