Cano was presented with the award May 21 at the Francis Domenigoni Community Center in Winchester. Miller-Jones Mortuary sponsored the award and Veteran's Salute event, which included lunch and entertainment, featuring the singing of the national anthem and "America the Beautiful."
Several local and state officials were present or were represented at the event, including Nico Melendez (left), who was representing his wife, Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez of the 67th District.

Currently, Cano is Service Officer for the Post. He is the first person a comrade in need approaches for assistance through the Veterans service programs.
Cano was recognized during the ceremony by Commander Pete Maroosis of VFW Post 1956.
