The Fifth Annual Menifee Motor Madness car show will be held this Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Mt San Jacinto College Menifee Campus.

The show features classic cars, hot rods, and cars that are unique for their rarity, design and history. Especially Mustangs, Thunderbirds and Corvettes are invited, no matter their age. Trophies will be awarded by local dignitaries and car show judges.

The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Menifee to raise funds for charity projects. There will be food and family fun along with other vendors. The event is open to the public at no charge.

Celebrity guest of honor is Page Jones. He was an established race car driver, running all three USAC national series. With seven midget wins and one sprint car victory to his credit, Jones was hoping to move up in the racing world.

At the 14th annual 4-Crown Nationals on Sept. 25, 1994 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, it appeared Jones would finish high in the sprint feature after jumping into the lead early. But while he was maneuvering through slower traffic, he lost traction in turns three and four, clipped the wall and flipped.

That’s when Jones' world and life changed instantly. During the first three days in the hospital, the doctors didn’t know if he was going to live or not. Jones battled for those three days, much as his family thought he would. Still, there were workers who said he would never walk again, would never be able to undertake everyday activities.

He has proven them wrong. His Judy and Parnelli Jones, have their son today, as well as two grandchildren who may carry on the family’s racing tradition.

Donations gathered through the "People's Choice" award will go to the Page Jones Fund Foundation through the Pittsburg Foundation to assist veterans with traumatic brain injury. A movie will soon be released about Jones' recovery to encourage victims of TBI and their families. For information, call 951-672-1731.

Copies of his father's new book, "As a matter of fact, I am PARNELLI JONES," will also be available for purchase.
