Menifee officials are working to bring a Trader Joe's market to Menifee and have a meeting scheduled this weekend with Trader Joe's representatives and a commercial developer, Mayor Scott Mann said today.
The meeting will take place during the International Council of Shopping Centers convention in Las Vegas. Menifee officials routinely attend ICSC events in an attempt to attract businesses to the city.
Mann said Trader Joe's representatives have told Menifee officials twice in the last year that "we're not ready to come to Menifee." However, Mann considers the scheduling of a new meeting to be a positive sign for a business he knows residents want in town.
"Your readers have been quite vocal about their desire to have a Trader Joe's in Menifee," Mann stated in an email to Menifee 24/7. "We will keep trying for Trader Joe's. They may keep saying "no, not now", but we will keep after them. Just like the efforts we took to bring a skate park, multi-screen movie theatre, bowling alley and entertainment complex, we continue to strive to bring quality name brand establishments to our city."
Jeff Wyman, economic development director for the city, heads Menifee's ongoing efforts to bring businesses such as Trader Joe's to Menifee, with support from many city officials. In a letter to a developer interested in such a project, Mann invited Trader Joe's officials to tour the city and discuss how a move here "would be beneficial to Trader Joe's."
