A Wildomar man survived the crash of his vehicle into a ravine alongside Railroad Canyon Road this morning and a portion of the road was closed for the second consecutive day.
Officers responded at 12:45 a.m. to the scene of the accident, near the intersection of Railroad Canyon Road and Church Road in Lake Elsinore. According to police, a Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Railroad Canyon Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a high voltage power pole.
The vehicle then proceeded down the side of the road and into the ravine. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and climb out of the ravine. As a result of the collision, the power pole buckled at its base, rendering it unstable.
Adrian Rene Quesada, 19, was detained at the scene. According to police, this appeared to be an alcohol-related traffic collision and the case is being submitted to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
Southern California Edison Company responded to the scene of the accident and the southbound lane of travel on Railroad Canyon Road between Church Road and Summerhill Drive was closed for much of the day while repairs were made to the power pole.
This was the second major traffic accident on Railroad Canyon in the last two days. Friday morning, a 61-year-old Menifee man was killed when a car struck his bicycle near Blackhorse Drive.
Anyone having further knowledge or information pertaining to this case is encouraged to contact Officer Wisniewski at the Lake Elsinore Police Department at 951-245-3300, or after hours at 951-776-1099.
