A ceremony of remembrance will be held this Sunday, May 4, in honor of Menifee resident Mickey D. Larragoitiy, who died April 21 at the age of 58.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend the gathering, which will be held at the home of Larragoitiy's mother, Leslie Fischer. The address is 28231 Winged Foot Drive in the Sun City commmunity of Menifee. The event will begin at 1 p.m.
Larragoitiy died from gunshot wounds suffered in a confrontation with police outside his home. However, his mother said he was well known to police and had received commendations for his efforts to deter crime in the neighborhood. Circumstances of his death remain under investigation.
"Many others chose to look the other way," Fischer said. "Not Mickey. He spent his last days assisting others for the good."
Larragoitiy was born in 1955 in Long Beach and graduated from Western High School in Anaheim. He worked for years as a cement mason in a trade that dated back to the 1940s in his family.
He is survived by his mother, Leslie Fischer; a son, Jason Larragoitiy of San Clemente; a brother, David Larragoitiy of Vista; and three grandchildren. Burial arrangements are pending.
