A Nuevo man died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic collision on Ramona Expressway at Rider Avenue -- one of two fatalities in the small community the same day.
Juan Gonzalez, 39, of Nuevo died at Riverside County Regional Medical Center about an hour after he was involved in a collision that required extrication of two victims from the wreckage, according to Cal Fire and the Coroner's Office. The other patient was also transported with major injuries.
According to the Coroner's report, Gonzalez was a restrained driver of a pick-up truck that veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a sedan.
The accident occurred about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday. About an hour later, officers responding to the report of an accidential shooting discovered the body of a 5-year-old boy in the 31000 block of Wolfskill Avenue. That fatality is being investigated by homicide detectives. The identity of the juvenile has not been released.
