A juvenile riding a bicycle on Las Brisas Road at Bolina Drive in Murrieta was struck by a vehicle this afternoon and died a short time later at a local hospital, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
According to the report, officers arrived on the scene at 4:09 p.m. Officers and Murrieta Firefighters began CPR and the juvenile was transported to Rancho Springs Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The age and identity of the victim have not been released. However, a Facebook post by the Murrieta Firefighters Local 3540 reported the deceased was an 11-year-old boy.
The bicycle the juvenile was riding had no brakes installed on it, according to police. The female adult driver and her female passenger, who were traveling westbound on Las Brisas Road in the vehicle that struck the juvenile, were uninjured in the collision.
At this time, there is nothing to indicate alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision. Numerous witnesses stopped to speak to traffic investigators at the scene. The investigation is in its initial stage and fault has not been determined at this point.
This was the second death related to a traffic accident in Murrieta today. A female pedestrian was struck by a semi truck and killed at the intersection of Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Madison Avenue this morning.
There was a third traffic fatality in the area when a motorcyclist was struck by a car and killed on Ortega Highway earlier today.
