The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery of a man in Lake Elsinore who apparently shot himself to death.
The coroner's office identified the man as David Merritt, 52, of Lake Elsinore. His body was found Friday morning in an open field adjacent to 310 N. Lowell St. According to the coroner's report, Merritt shot himself with a shotgun.
