A Murrieta man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs resulting in injuries and child endangerment after a collision involving a vehicle and a jogger.
Officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to the report of a collision at the intersection of Del Rey Road and Calle Pina Colada in Temecula about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Upon arrival, they located an injured jogger and one vehicle, a gray Volkswagen sedan with moderate front end damage.
The Volkswagen contained a male adult driver -- James Desmond, 37 -- and a 7-year-old female juvenile passenger who were uninjured in the collision. The injured jogger was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of major injuries as a result of being struck by the vehicle.
Investigators determined that the driver of the Volkswagen was traveling north on Del Rey Road and struck the jogger, who was running south on Del Rey on the west side of the street. Desmond was found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was arrested, police said.
