Last month we shared that Heritage Classical Charter Schools (HCCS) is continuing to pursue a new public charter school for Menifee residents called Menifee Valley Preparatory School or “MVP.”
Recently HCCS presented compelling evidence to the Riverside County Board of Education supporting MVP, modeled after its highly successful Temecula Preparatory School program including the fact that the program has the highest K-12 composite API scores in the county.
Interestingly, this was not the main focus of the Menifee parents who attended the hearing and spoke to the board. Their main focus seemed to be the unique, underlying, focus on virtue in the classroom and around the campus.
In order to express how important this virtue component is, one father quoted President Theodore Roosevelt who said that, “To educate a person in the mind but not in morals is to educate a menace to society.”
Herein lies the key to why MVP would be a benefit to the families in Menifee. MVP will not just teach “character counts” one week out of the year -- MVP will teach that virtue counts all of the time and above all else.
The Riverside County Board of Education is scheduled to give its decision on Wednesday, January 8th, at 9:00 AM. Please join us and the other parents who are planning on being there to support this great effort!
