Menifee to Celebrate Veterans Day with 5K Run, Memorial

The City of Menifee will honor United States military veterans with a 5K run this Saturday, Nov. 9 and the annual Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 11. Both events are at Wheatfield Park, 30627 Menifee Road at La Piedra Road.

The celebration begins with the third annual Veterans Day Memorial 5K run Saturday at 8 a.m. The race starts in Wheatfield Park and traverses an extremely rugged hill course up and over Bell Mountain. Runners receive a swag bag and all finishers receive a dog-tag style finisher medal.

Racers must pre-register at www.active.com by 5 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 8. The race is a fundraiser for the Veterans’ Memorial at Wheatfield Park and proceeds will be used for ongoing maintenance.

The celebration continues in Wheatfield Park on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, with the city’s annual event beginning at 11 a.m. This free event features a ceremony to honor and celebrate United States military veterans and begins with the posting of colors by the Paloma Valley High NJROTC Color Guard.

Participants will be given a flag to place around the Veterans memorial in remembrance of those who lost their lives while serving in the United States military.

Families may also honor Veterans and active duty military personnel of the United States Armed Forces through the city’s military banner program. The banners, which may include a photo, are hung from city light poles on busy Menifee streets to honor veterans and active duty personnel that reside or have an immediate family member that resides in Menifee. Banners cost $100, including installation. The program costs are offset through donations.
