The City of Menifee's sales tax revenue continued to increase for the first quarter of 2013, according to the city's Economic Development Department.
Sales tax revenues were up more than 6 percent from the same quarter a year ago. The biggest increase came in the building and construction category, followed by general consumer goods and restaurants.
In addition, sales tax revenues grew in all categories for the first time in Menifee history. Quarterly gross receipts topped $5 million.
"Menifee's economy is continually improving," said Economic Director Jeff Wyman. "Sales tax revenues increasing year over year, total sales receipts breaking $5 million and the recent report of job growth surpassing pre-recession numbers all point to a growing economy."
According to a job growth report conducted by Claremont McKenna College, Menifee had nearly 400 more jobs in December 2012 than it did during the pre-recession peak.
