About 400 members of local Boy Scout packs sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will converge on Wheatfield Park tonight and tomorrow for a campout and jamboree in honor of the 100th anniversary of the church's involvement in scouting.
The LDS/BSA Centennial Celebration will include a fireside and skits tonight at 7:30. Boy Scouts will camp in tents at the park and will be joined by local Cub Scouts Saturday for a full day of activites.
The public is invited to attend on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. to witness the activities. City dignitaries will be on hand to observe and judge the activities, conducted at 14 stations representing the 14 wards in the Menifee LDS Stake. Activities include the building of suspension bridges; knot demonstrations; Pinewood Derby; Space Derby (airplanes); Motorboat Derby; cooking meals; and other demonstrations.
The campout will take place between the Recreation Center and tennis courts. Scouts must observe a 10 p.m. curfew tonight, enforced by scout leaders.
