The Riverside County Coroner's Office today released the identity of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Sept. 12 in Menifee.

The shooting victim was identified as John Schultz, 66. According to a report from the Menifee Police Department, officers responded to the report of a suicide threat and confronted a man in the back yard of a home in the 27000 block of Medford Way. An officer-involved shooting occurred when the subject refused to drop his weapon and pointed it at officers, according to the report.

Schultz lived alone in the rented home. Police released no additional information on the case, which is still under investigation.
