For the month of August, and for as long as funds allow, the San Jacinto Valley Animal campus is offering free spay and neuter available to Riverside County residents. This service is made possible by the county Department of Animal Services through the use of grant funds and will continue as long as possible. Beginning today, Monday, Aug. 5, anyone who has an appointment for surgery already scheduled will also receive the service free of cost.
This service is completely free, however should any complications arise during surgery the owner will be responsible for the nominal charges incurred. Pet owners may also choose to purchase a pain shot for $8 for when your pet wakes up from surgery, this is not required and is at the sole discretion of the owner.
The easiest way to book an appointment is through Animal Services' website or by calling the clinic at 951-791-3720. The Clinic is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It is California state law that all dogs must be licensed in their respective counties, so for this reason if you dog is not licensed RCDAS will not operate on your dog unless you agree to pay the licensing fee.
Please note: According to public information chief, John Welsh, due to the overwhelming response for free microchips the RCDAS will be organizing specific dates and times to come claim your free microchip. They are very passionate about helping get each and every pet microchipped, and they thank you for your patience.
In addition to free spay and neuter, anyone who “LIKES” their Facebook page will receive a free microchip for their pet as well. Their page can be found by searching for "San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus". Simply stop by the clinic and let a staff member know you have liked their Facebook page and they will confirm the information to provide your pet with a free microchip.
As quoted from the Riverside County Department of Animal services press release, "We heard a lot of positive comments about the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus during the Mountain Fire incident when we helped Idyllwild-area evacuees by caring for their pets," Director Robert Miller said. "Another thing we heard is that folks didn't know the shelter existed. We think this surgery special is a great way to help put the San Jacinto shelter on the map."
