The City of Menifee today announced completion of a sidewalk project that will improve pedestrian safety during the upcoming school year.

In response to requests from concerned residents and parents of students walking to and from Hans Christensen Middle School, the city added a sidewalk on the south side of McCall Boulevard from Sherman Road east to Hillpointe Drive. Previously, pedestrians had to maneuver around a rocky drainage ditch and walk a dirt path.

In addition, the sidewalk heading south on Sherman Road from the school toward McCall was extended 175 feet, creating one continuous sidewalk for pedestrians.

The $40,000 project began and was completed in July.

"The McCall sidewalk project is a great example of the city using community input to improve our infrastructure," said Interim City Manager Rob Johnson. "We heard the community's requests and we delivered a solution in time for the start of the school year."

Classes begin Aug. 15.

BEFORE: A sidewalk heading north on Sherman Road from the corner of McCall Boulevard did not run all the way to Hans Christensen Middle School.

AFTER: Students can now walk on a sidewalk all the way along Sherman Road to and from the school.

  1. Isn't that pretty, now maybe the City can do something like enforce the laws out here on the older part of Holland Road, since they paved the 'speedway' and no one pays attention to the stop signs nor the speed limit signs. you know we residents of the original Menifee do have people to worry about here too, or is it that the developers pay the city people more for the newer areas?

  2. It's nice. Took an inaugural, sidewalk ride on my mountain bike from McCall / Encanto through the back forty - Menifee/Simpson to Newport. Love the back roads of Menifee.
