Congratulations to Nikki O'Neal, who was the only reader to correctly guess that Menifee Maze 7 is a picture of, as she put it, "the abandoned house at Haun Road and Sott Road."
Actually, there's a lot more than that to the story of the vacant, dilapidated ranch house, barn and tower that are fenced in but still very visible from Scott Road, just northwest of the intersection of Scott and Haun Road. That was the home of Charles and Laura Bailey (see bottom photo), who came to Menifee in 1915. Charles built the house, including a fireplace made of native rocks he cleared from his field, and the couple lived there the rest of their lives. The property has been sold to a developer and may one day be part of a business center across the street from the proposed Walmart.
Nikki O'Neal will receive a $50 VISA gift card for her correct guess. We will introduce a new Menifee Maze tomorrow!
