The Falls Fire above Lake Elsinore has covered 1,500 acres and is now 20 percent contained, according to U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire officials.
The fire appeared to be slowing overnight, but as of 9 a.m. today, Ortega Highway remained closed between Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore and San Antonio Parkway in Orange County. No homes have burned, but some in Decker Canyon and Lakeland Village remain threatened.
More than 360 firefighters, 54 engine companies and 16 overhead units are fighting the blaze. Evacuation orders for Rancho Capistrano and Lakeland Village have been lifted, but Decker Canyon remains under evacuation orders.
A change in the wind overnight blew much of the smoke away from the Menifee area and toward the northwest.
