Seven engine companies responded to the fire, which was reported to the Riverside County Fire Department at 6:42 a.m. Firefighters contained the fire to a single structure and no injuries were reported.
Cause of the fire is under investigation. The barn is on a rural stretch of Zeiders Road, which is near the Shops at Scott center at Scott Road and Haun Road.

According to the Historic Booklet for Menifee Valley, the structure that burned was the Pennsylvania Dutch Barn built by Walter Zeiders in 1938. The lumber for the framing and the redwood siding came from the old Val Verde School. Lumber was soaken in water to form the curve for the roof.
ReplyDeleteThis was by far my favorite of the remaining historic buildings in Menifee

How sad, tragic really.
ReplyDeleteOne of mine too Bill Zimmerman. A tragic loss, a structure that I saw every day of my childhood. The countryside thats left looks remarkably different in its absence. My heart is heavy today.
