An 8-acre vegetation fire in the 31100 block of Hidden Lake Road in unincorporated Murrieta was contained by firefighters in about 90 minutes this afternoon.
Battalion chief Phil Raulings told Menifee 24/7 on the scene that the fire was in the brush behind a house on Hidden Lake Road. No injuries were reported, according to Cal Fire. One home was damaged, but the extent of damage was not reported.
Smoke from the fire was visible for several miles north on Leon Road near Menifee. Officials said 75 firefighters and one air tanker knocked down the blaze.
Steve Gallegos, division chief for Cal Fire, advised residents to keep the brush around homes cleared and refrain from using lawn mowers, edgers and weedeaters after noon because of the danger of sparks igniting a fire in the summer heat.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
