All southbound lanes of Interstate 215 in Perris will be closed for up to 24 hours following an accident involving a big rig truck this morning.
According to Caltrans officials, an oversize truck struck the construction framework of the Perris Boulevard overcrossing at about 7:30 this morning. The I-215 freeway is being widened to three lanes in each direction, requiring the expansion of bridges and overcrossings that span the freeway.
Construction crews will be inspecting and repairing the structure in order to ensure the safety of motorists, residents and construction workers. Closure of the southbound lanes could last as long as 24 hours. The northbound lanes are currently open, but this condition may change based on the need for additional repair work.
According to Cal Fire officials, one person was transported by ambulance with moderate injuries.
