Residents from throughout the Menifee area gathered in a prayer circle for missing 11-year-old Terry Smith.
Hundreds of people converged on the Menifee Market at 26035 Scott Road tonight for a prayer vigil supporting the efforts of rescue workers searching for Terry Dewayne Smith, an 11-year-old Menifee boy who went missing sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The vigil began with a blessing and devotional from Associate Pastor Jim Edwards (below) of Revival Christian Fellowship of Menifee, a local church the Smith family has attended before.

"It’s good to see all the people come out for the support," Edwards said. "It’s good that people are thinking about God in all of this, and turning to Him for guidance."

Edwards' prayer was followed by another invocation from Senior Associate Pastor Mike Wilson of Center Point Church of Murrieta.

"This isn’t just a Menifee thing," Wilson said. "This is a southwest Riverside County thing. We have people from all over the county here helping."

One of the groups near the center of the effort is Faithful Servants Outreach.

According to a spokesperson from FSO who modestly asked not to be identified, the group started right here in Menifee.

"It started right here in my heart and we’ve grown a lot over the last three years," the spokesperson said. "We are working on our federal nonprofit status. We go where God calls us to go. We are not affiliated with one church or organization."

One volunteer, Harmony Hansen, shared her reasons for coming out.

"I just moved here three days ago," she said. "I don’t know anybody here, but I have kids and I don’t know what I’d do if this happened to one of them."

The mood was hopeful as the sun set over Menifee, with neighbors and friends gathering flashlights and bug spray, preparing to search all night if need be.

Search and rescue team members from Riverside County were following up on tips received from residents, but Terry remained missing late tonight. He hasn't been seen since Saturday night.
