The 16-year-old half brother of a Menifee boy found buried in the back yard of his home has been charged with murder.
The Riverside County District Attorney's Office decided today to file the charge against Skylor Atilano, seen here in the current Paloma Valley High School yearbook.. The DA's office is requesting that the juvenile court conduct a hearing to determine whether the case should be handled in juvenile court or adult court.
That hearing will take place this Monday, July 15, at the Southwest Justice Center, 30755 Auld Road, Murrieta. It is a detention hearing, not an arraignment, according to DA's office spokesperson John Hall. By law, because of the charge of murder, all proceedings in this case -- unless specified by the judge -- are open to the media and the public.
No further details were released.
Skylor told police and reporters that he last saw his half brother walking back to their home Saturday night, hours before he was reported missing. For the next few days, he sat at the volunteer command post in apparent support of the effort. The body was discovered in the Smith's back yard Wednesday morning by a woman who claims she saw a vision to go there.

Since the case is open to the public will updates be posted?
ReplyDeletethanks for the info and I will do my best to be there, sad story .
ReplyDeletethis keeps getting weirder and weirder. A psychic found the body, but before she did the police had searched that same area with dogs. who ever murdered that poor boy had hid the body until after the police searched that area and then buried him with his hair exposed. The police would definitely have seen that if he was there the whole time. It sounds like someone else may have been involved. sounds like he hid the body somewhere and carried it there later, but where did he hide it? who else knows?
ReplyDeleteI agree....I really don't believe he acted alone. Could the child have been dead longer than what we are being told? Why did both the mom and son stop talking to the press and why was a search warrant needed? Something isn't right. Yeah, I don't get that they didn't find him right away. I thought, too, the body had been moved. Personally, I believe the mother is in this up to her damn eyeballs. Why hasn't she been arrested for felony child abuse/neglect for leaving Terry with that monster? She knew there was trouble between them.
ReplyDeleteI feel sick... I just graduated from Paloma Valley and went to school with this kid. I'm completely and utterly shocked. I was hoping that this would be some kid I've never seen at school before but now that I know I'm trying to wrap this around my brain. I still cannot believe this.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible either way. Poor Baby, and I cannot imagine what could have gone through this boy head to do what he did and why? What could anyone do to dye like that, or to deserve this. That boy looks emotionally distress too, so there is more than one victim here, the 16 year old (who I'm not trying to justify for his actions) and poor Terry who is gone so young. And where were the parents at? this is deeper than a shallow grave. sorry to say.
ReplyDeleteDid the boy (half brother) admit to the murder or being tried because he is last person who saw him? Is the mother involved in anyway and what are neighbors reporting as the last time Terry was seen.
ReplyDeleteSOMETHING NOT RIGHT WITH THIS STORY THE MOTHER KNOWS MORE I JUST FEEL IT THERES MORE TO IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEBODIES NOT TELLING THE TRUTH
ReplyDeleteThanks for printing so many comments. Nice to see how spelling and proper grammar have gone by the wayside with the invention of all the electronics young people are using today. There goes the education system as it has been.
ReplyDeleteIf the 11-year-old was on ADHD medications, was the 16-year-old also, possibly in combination with illegal drugs? What kind of a mother would leave an 11-year-old in the care of a 16-year-old with violent tendencies while she's out playing in the bars?
