Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline for Menifee residents to apply for the vacant position on the Planning Commission.
This is the end of the 10-day application period which began when District 1 city council representative Greg August (left) made the decision to dismiss Anne Pica, whom he appointed to the commission last fall. It is August's appointment to make again, but applicants can reside anywhere in the city, said city clerk Kathy Bennett.
According to a city ordinance, each city council member shall appoint one planning commissioner and "may "determine whether or not to utilize the application process in making the appointment.” According to Matt Liesemeyer, chair of the planning commission, August may choose from among the pool of applicants or may appoint anyone of his choosing.
The appointment is listed on the agenda for Tuesday night's city council meeting, but Bennett said the matter could be held over at August's request.
Persons interested in applying for the position may do so until 5 p.m. today at City Hall, 29714 Haun Road.

Don't hold your breath he will make any better choice this time around. He seems to have an affinity for ill-conceived notions.
