A Corona resident was arrested and booked for attempting the carjacking of a citizen in Perris on the morning of Tuesday, June 18.
The Riverside County Police Department has indentified the carjacking suspect as 29-year-old Jorge Luis Reyna.
The victim had just parked his Mercedes in the 700 block of Ramona Expressway when a Hispanic male adult walked up to him and threatened to kill him if he did not give up his car keys, police said.
The citizen cooperated with the suspect, but then yelled for help.
When a bystander heard the victim, they rushed over to the scene, ultimately scaring the suspect away. Reyna then fled on foot toward residential homes nearby.
Upon arrival, deputies set up a two-block perimeter around the area where the suspect had fled. Within minutes, Reyna was arrested in the 4200 block of Brennan Avenue.
The Perris Police Department encourages citizens to call 911 when they witness a crime and to avoid placing themselves in danger of any suspects who may or may not be armed.
Those who may have witnessed the carjacking or have any information regarding this investigation, please call Deputy J. Lagman at the Perris Station at 951-210-1000.
