A 21-year-old Perris woman is in critical condition in a local hospital after a single-car collision early this morning in Menifee, police said.
At 12:49 a.m., officers from the Menifee Police Department responded to a collision on McCall Boulevard in front of the Menifee Valley Medical Center. According to police, a 21-year-old male driver from Nuevo was traveling east on McCall Boulevard when he drifted off the right edge of the roadway.
The pick-up truck he was driving struck a metal guardrail placed there to protect drivers from a small drain channel on the south side of the road. The guardrail became impaled though the entire length of the truck.
A 21-year-old female passenger was struck by the guardrail going through the truck. She was unconscious when police officers arrived. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remains hospitalized in critical condition. The driver received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Identities of those involved were not released. Alcohol and drugs are considered a factor in this collision.
The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have further information is asked to call the Menifee Police Department Traffic Division at 951-210-1000.
