Police continue to search for two suspects in an attempted burglary at Mt. San Jacinto College Thursday that resulted in a lockdown of nearby Callie Kirkpatrick Elementary School.
According to the Mt. San Jacinto College Police Department, two male Hispanics, ages 20-25, were seen removing tools and other items from a shed in the Menifee campus maintenance yard about 1 p.m. Thursday. When a school employee yelled at them, the suspects fled in a white pickup truck. As the truck accelerated through the parking lot, the stolen items fell out of the vehicle.
The truck drove eastbound on La Piedra Road, nearly striking an off-duty Sheriff's deputy. The deputy followed the truck but lost sight of it. According to police, the suspects abandoned the truck about a mile from the campus and fled into the neighborhood directly behind Callie Kirkpatrick Elementary School. Neighbors in the area called 911 upon seeing the fleeing suspects and the school was put on lockdown.
After a brief period of time, the suspects could not be located and the school was given the all clear to resume classes. The abandoned truck was registered in Riverside and may be a stolen vehicle, MSJC police said. The suspects are still at large and wanted for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
