Local dentist Dr. Ruth Bol is one of the many Menifee residents involved in this weekend's showcase of local stars, presented by Arts Council Menifee Saturday at 5 p.m. as "Menifee's Got Talent" at the Kay Ceniceros Center.
Bol and her partner, Ryan Ramos, will perform a rumba, a style of ballroom dance.
Bol has been studying ballroom and Latin dance for the past three years under the tutelage of choreographer Samantha Potter. A bit of a local celebrity whose resume includes being one of the original dancers in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, Potter has also choreographed routines for TV's "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance." She owns and operates the Ballroom at the Villa Incanta dance studio in Temecula.
Potter choreographed Bol's routine for Saturday's performance.
A longtime benefactor and donor to the Arts Council Menifee, Bol said she is happy to see arts education and outreach occurring here in town. She also emphasized the importance of the arts to the development of local youth, and recognized the positive effects it has had on many of the young people she sees.
"Dancing (in particular) is a lost art," Bol said. "Many life lessons can be gained in dance, such as etiquette, posture and poise - skills that can help build confidence in young people."
Saturday's event will feature many acts. Last year's winners, JR Reed and Sonja Prince, will be in attendance. Admission is $5 at the door.
