Sophomore baseball player Cyrus Medor, a versatile player who has proven to be a team leader, is the first Santa Rosa Academy athlete to receive a Menifee 24/7 Athlete of the Month award.
Cyrus has played a pivotal role for the team in the first year of its program. He is hitting an impressive .714 for the season and leads the team with 34 runs scored. He has 34 hits and 18 stolen bases.
Being used at several defensive positions, Cyrus has provided stability for Santa Rosa, which is 12-5 while playing an independent schedule against teams such as Cornerstone Christian and Upland Christian. His contributions will help build the foundation of a program that will have a permanent home facility when the school being built on Haun Road across from Countryside Marketplace is completed later this year.
Meanwhile, the team plays home games at Aldergate Park and prepares for what promises to be a bright future.
"It's a bummer not having a home field, but it's been a really good season," Cyrus said.
His favorite position, Cyrus said, is center field.
"I love tracking down the ball," he said. "Center field is my favorite, but I play all over. I tried basketball, but it wasn't for me. Baseball brings a smile to my face."
Cyrus' coach, Tony Miller, has high praise for the sophomore.
"Cyrus has been the spark plug in our season," Miller said. "He is also a leader in the classroom. He's never had a problem with his grades. Cyrus is just an overall great student-athlete, and I am so very proud of him."
Cyrus received a certificate in recognition of his honor and an iTunes gift card.
