Menifee 24/7 is running two contests in which readers can win cash and other prizes.
The first contest, introduced on Wednesday, asked readers what business they would like to see move into the vacant Albertson's grocery store location at Newport Road and Murrieta Road. In two days, we received more than 100 official entries via email, plus over 400 other comments posted on our Facebook page. Nearly 15,000 readers have viewed that posting, proving once again what a hot topic of conversation that vacant building is.
This contest was closed at 5 p.m. Friday, earlier than originally planned because of a report that a Fitness 19 gym plans to move into the building. We have learned, however, that nothing has been approved for that location and it appears likely there will be multiple tenants occupying that space. Speculation about potential tenants, therefore, continues.
With that said, we are now judging the official entries, evaluating the arguments made for the wide variety of businesses proposed by you, the readers. The person we feel presents the most interesting and compelling argument for his or her preferred tenant will win a $50 VISA card. The winner will be announced here on Monday.
Our other contest was introduced on Friday, in conjunction with the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team. Readers can enter this contest until midnight on Sunday with the chance to win four tickets to the Storm's home opener on Thursday, April 11.
To enter, send an email to menifee247sports@gmail.com, telling us why you like going to Storm games or why you'd like to go for the first time. Include your full name and phone number. Five winners of four tickets each will be announced here on Tuesday.
Contestants should also visit and "like" the Storm's Facebook page, where you will find more details about the team and new season.
