The Riverside County Sheriff's Department released the following information on an incident Saturday in an area near the border of Murrieta and Temecula:
On Saturday, Feb. 23, at 4:11 a.m., deputies from the Southwest Station responded to a residence in the 31700 block of Umbria Lane in the unincorporated area of Temecula in reference to a report of an accidental shooting victim at that location. Their investigation revealed the following:
The occupants of the residence on Umbria Lane held a small party with about 10 people attending. All of the people were in the backyard when the suspect and the female victim went back inside the residence to a bedroom. The suspect and the victim got into an argument and the victim was shot one time.
The victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital and her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The suspect was detained and transported to the Southwest Station to be interviewed.
Shawn Steward, 32, was subsequently arrested with attempted murder and booked into the Southwest Detention Center on that charge.
Anyone with additional information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Franchville at the Southwest Station at 951-696-3000.
