Preston Green scored 14 points and Chris Owens had 12 Thursday night, but Paloma Valley lost a 70-56 decision to visiting Temescal Canyon in a boys basketball game that decided third place in the final Sunbelt League standings.
The win put Temescal Canyon into the CIF Southern Section playoffs, which begin next week. The top three teams from each league qualify. Paloma Valley, now 12-16 overall, could still be invited to the playoffs as an at-large team.
Playoff pairings will be announced by the CIF office on Sunday.
The Paloma Valley girls basketball team lost its final league game to Lakeside, 82-46, but finished in third place with a 6-4 record, good enough for a CIF playoff berth. The Wildcats will learn who their opponent is on Sunday.
