Donations are still being accepted for the Menifee Santa's Workshop, an event affiliated with the Spark of Love Toy Drive, scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 22.
For the past six years, the Menifee Battalion Spark of Love Toy Drive has put local firefighters together with the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce and Menifee Valley Community Cupboard to present gifts to underprivileged children in the area. Families apply to participate through Menifee schools and fire stations. Applicants are screened by the Cupboard and selected families are invited to visit with Santa.
At the Workshop, children get their picture taken with Santa, they pick out a present or two, they receive games and stuffed toys, make ornaments and snack on cookies and punch.
Members of the community assist by contributing toys to the fire stations and donation boxes located through out the community. New and used bicycles are collected to be refurbished and raffled off at the Workshop. Various groups assist at the event as organizers, attendants, transportation assistants, elves, and numerous duties that are required to make the event an enjoyable experience for all.
Cash donations also are accepted by the Community Cupboard for items not otherwise provided (cups, cookies, photo paper, bicycle helmets, tape, glue, paint, etc.)
Those wishing to donate toys or make a cash donation should contact the Community Cupboard at 951-301-4414. Toys may also be dropped off at fire stations in Menifee.
