Gathering to collect donations for a good cause and simply for some good old-fashioned fun, about 100 Menifee residents of all ages participated in the 10th annual Community Barn Dance and Food Drive Saturday night at the Menifee Community Center.
Bill and Colleen Ackerman taught participants a variety of line dances and square dance moves, allowing everyone to spread out around the gym and dance to the lively music. Adults joined with children as young as age 6 to learn the steps for both line dances and partner dances, including the Virginia Reel.
Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District and Arts Council Menifee coordinated the event and collected donations of non-perishable food items for the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard.
Approximately 387 pounds of food was donated to the Community Cupboard. The value of the event itself to those who participated? Priceless.
