Mann Appears Victorious in Mayoral Race; August Wins

With 78 percent of the precincts reporting, former city councilman Scott Mann is virtually assured of becoming Menifee's first elected mayor.

In the latest results reported by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters, Mann has received 11,014 votes, or 56.41 percent of the votes cast, far ahead of current council member Darcy Kuenzi (6,859, 35.13 percent). Results have been reported for 39 of the 50 precincts.

"We're riding high over here," Mann said late Tuesday night, after watching national and local election results with about 200 supporters at Menifee Lakes Country Club. "I'm confident this lead will hold up. Typically, a lead like this holds during the night. That would be a hard margin to overcome."

Mann said he was confident of victory heading into Election Day after a straw poll of 600 mail-in ballot voters indicated he had received 62 percent of those votes.

In the race for the District 1 city council seat, Greg August defeated incumbent Sue Kristjansson, receiving 3,468 votes, or 50.56 percent of the votes cast for four candidates. All precincts have reported.

In District 3, with 84 percent of the precincts reporting, incumbent Wallace Edgerton leads Bill Zimmerman with 54 percent of the votes.
