Wallace Edgerton qualified Friday to run for the Menifee City Council seat in District 3, where he will oppose planning commissioner Bill Zimmerman.
Edgerton, former mayor of Menifee and current city councilman, has served on the council since its inception upon the city's corporation in 2008. He has 17 years' experience on the Long Beach City Council as well.
An opponent of some of the development projects brought before the council in recent years, Edgerton often is outspoken as a dissenting vote during council meetings.
"I've done a lot of walking the community and I've talked to a lot of people," Edgerton said in a recent interview. "I want to be in sync with what the people want. I believe I'm representing the majority; if I didn't, I wouldn't be running."
The only prospective candidate who hasn't been certified by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters is John F. Smith, who pulled papers to run for mayor. Smith has until the close of business today to submit his paperwork at City Hall. He wouldn't be certified until at least Monday.
