The Riverside County Registrar of Voters certified John F. Smith as a qualified candidate for Menifee mayor late Friday afternoon, meaning all those who pulled papers to run for office in the Nov. 6 elections are now eligible for the ballot.
Smith, 41, is a local businessman who is running for public office for the first time. A former resident of New Jersey, Smith is a project manager for a San Diego-based company and has an office in Perris.
He lives in District 4, the southwest portion of Menifee, where Tom Fuhrman's council seat is not up for election this year. Smith said this is why he chose to run for mayor instead, although he also supports Fuhrman as a council member.
The field is now complete for the two open city council district seats and the office of mayor, which for the first time is an at-large position. The candidates are:
Mayor: Darcy Kuenzi, Scott Mann, John F. Smith
District 1: Greg August, Sue Kristjansson, Nick Martin, Carol Sullivan
District 3: Wallace Edgerton, Bill Zimmerman

I'll take him over Darcy and Scott
ReplyDelete8:43a...since you'll take Mr. Smith over Darcy and Scott could you then tell us about Mr. Smith? How long has he been in Perris? What company does he work for? How long has he been in Menifee? He said himself he doesn't know much about the city nor Mayors office, so just how does he qualify then, I'm curious. Would I hire you 8:43a to fix my plumbing is you weren't a plumber? Since your not a plumber, would you even know how to turn the water off, or where the pipes might be hidden in the ground? Same with a someone not knowing anything about a city, or how a city is run..I think we have seen enough cities already in California going bankrupt bez these cities voted the wrong people in to office. You can't vote a dog catcher into running the cities budget...without consequences.
DeleteHere's an idea 11:20am why don't you attend a voter invited forum and ask Mr Smith your own questions! What does the man's job or how long he worked in Perris have anything to do with his candidacy for mayor? Its obvious you've decided who you will vote for so vote your conscious and don't complain when business in city hall is business as usual! People like you are constantly griping about city officials when its people like you who put them there....
Delete8:43am I'm with you in voting for John Smith. These current candidates have had their chance and failed. We need to bring a new perspective into the city, not one who is tainted by the inner bickering of the current council. Mann and Kuenzi are power hungry and if either one gets elected the only change is that one group will have a majority over the other and will vote only in favor of their own agenda. This is not good for the city. We need a council representation of the collective whole. Mr Smith stated earlier, 'he has no loyalties to one side or the other' and can offer the buffer needed to ensure the work of the city is achieved.
DeleteMann told us to vote for him for School Board.
ReplyDeleteMany asked if he would use it as a stepping stone to get back into controlling the City. He gave us his word that he would not.
What do you have if don't have your word?
We really have NO good candidates for Mayor right now. I'm really worried for the future of our city because none of them are honestly in it for the best interest of us residents. I have serious concerns that our city is going to go from a peaceful small community to a slum if we don't get some serious control of the housing and development and resolve our traffic issues.
ReplyDeleteWhen is a city of 80,000 a small community? This city is in the midst of surrounding cities slated to be over 100,000 each at full build out. We must plan for an urban city located in urban subregion. We need a council to promote quality growth.
Delete3:04P Your blog bothers me, without sufficient roads and bridges and jobs just how are we to handle this many people? You will have nothing but gridlock! serious gridlock. These cities promoting building better be held responsible for the proper roads and bridges built BEFORE the population arrives..as we can all see, Riverside County Supervisors certainly didn't have any vision or simply did NOT care, and look at the mess just here in Menifee, what about the cities bordering us that are about to explode with people! You should NOT be able to build one home, period! without a road to get to and from that home, and then multiply it times thousands..Mr.Zimmerman wants more roofs, lets just hope he puts in slurry seal before the roofs.
DeleteIf Mann, Edgerton and August are voted in by the residents of Menifee they will turn the council back into a workable council and move forward in the best interest of all of us. If we want to stop the arguing and back biting and get back on track for we the residents of Menifee these 3 have got to get on our City Council. VOTE
ReplyDeleteIn response to your Aug 13 anonymous response, you need to do your homework if Mann, Edgerton and August get in it will be politics as usual accept that they will now be the majority along with Tom furhman working towards their own personal agenda. We need change! Change that only comes to fruition with new people who have no loyalties to one side or the other...
DeleteThe city of Menifee is entering into a critical time. The upcoming election for an at large Mayor and open council seats sets the stage for what could prove to be a ruinous setback or a major advance in the metamorphosis of this city.
ReplyDeleteA close scrutiny of the suitability for three candidates currently vying for office needs to be made. An election of any one of them will result in disaster for the advancement of Menifee.
What are we going to do? We have absolutely no qualified candidates for Mayor and we are going to end up with one of them. It's a big problem just like the only nominee's we have for president. Now, not only is our city in trouble, but our country is going to continue going down the toilet.
ReplyDeleteOf bigger concern are some of those vying for council positions
DeleteIn my humble opinion we don't no who is qualified yet to be the bets Mayor for Menifee, I would like to see at least three (3) city hall debates before election time. Hold them in different parts of the city so everyone can come and have no excuse for not coming to at least one of them. We need, as citizens, to ask really good questions and hold them responsible for those answers if they should win. Is anyone putting this together yet? Time is ticking away....
ReplyDeleteI agree more open forum meetings for the candidates should be held. One such opportunity has been held, which was informative.
DeletePerhaps your opinion is correct about who is best qualified there, however, should be no question about who is NOT suitable.
It doesn't matter what they say. Doesn't everyone know by now that politicians will tell people what they want to hear so they can get elected! Then once they are in office they begin to do what they want to do and to repay theirs debts to campaign contributors by signing off on various things.
ReplyDeleteIF candidates were automatically fired or removed from office by being held responsible for what they said during a campaign or a public forum prior to them being elected then 99% of everyone in public office would have been removed from office within a week of being elected.
If you don't know it or haven't heard it by now it's called Lip Service.
No, it's called voter apathy.Too many people don't take the time or make the effort to know who they are voting for.If relying on their campaign statements is your only source of information, you deserve what you get.
DeleteHey 1:13am I thought it was called CONGRESS!
DeleteTo 8:56 AM - I'm sure that everything you checked into for everyone you have ever voted for checked out 100% accurate? As all of those who voted for our current president have found out; a great speaker just means that they can baffle you with B.S.
ReplyDeleteSome are more easily baffled than others.
