The fast-spreading cloud of gray smoke visible to the east of Menifee Tuesday was the result of a fire that has burned more than 3,000 acres, destroyed at least four structures and caused the evacuation of 32 homes in the Aguanga community southeast of Hemet.
According to Riverside County Fire Department officials, two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The latest fire department update, at 8 a.m. Wednesday, lists the blaze as 15 percent contained.
The fire reportedly began near Lewis Valley Road east of Lake Skinner. It was first reported around 1 p.m. Tuesday. The incident command post has been relocated to Domenigoni Parkway and Searle Parkway, near Diamond Valley Lake Community Park east of Hemet.
