The Menifee Union School District Tuesday released a revised bus schedule for the coming school year.
Several routes were eliminated or revised because of budgetary concerns, according to Betti Cadmus, public information officer for the district. Just three of the district's nine elementary schools -- Freedom Crest, Oak Meadows and the new Herk Bouris Elementary school -- will now be served by bus routes.
All three middle schools also will have bus routes next school year. Routes are listed on the school district website under the link "bus schedules" on the left side of the home page.
All students must have a pass to ride the bus. Fees have increased this year to $350 annually for the first student in the family, $190 for the second and $130 for the third.
"This is the first year in a three-step increase," Cadmus said. "It's a large increase, so it was set over three years. We're trying to stay in line with other districts that still have busing. We're checking to see if RTA can add some routes."
The school board voted in April to eliminate several routes, change some pick-up and drop-off points, and lay off three bus drivers. The district is dealing with an expected $7 million budget deficit for the coming year.
Parents were notified of the changes this week, Cadmus said. Route maps will be available at school sites Aug. 10.
