Menifee residents will have to pay 2.68 percent more for trash pickup beginning this month, due to an annual rate increase by Waste Management, Inc. as previously agreed to in a contract with the city.

The City Council Tuesday night approved the increase, pursuant to the existing franchise agreement with Waste Management. According to city documents, the increase was based on the Consumer Price Index for the previous two-year period.

If the council had not approved the increase, the city would be in violation of its franchise agreement with Waste Management and would risk losing an estimated $775,000 in revenue.

The new monthly residential rate, including an adjustment to reflect the county's proposed tipping fee increase, is $23.98. The monthly commercial rate is $124.66.

  1. We live up in the Evening Star Drive area and our whole block does not get a Green Waste Bin in order to get one we have to pay extra for this bin, and we pay the same rates as all the rest of the people that get 3 bins.. we are told by WM that we have to take this up with the City of Menifee. Come On Menifee step up to it and get us our Green Waste Bins.

  2. We have the same issue as the previous poster. We are the only street (Longleaf) in our entire community that doesn't get the Green Waste Bin. Doesn't make sense at all...we pay the same as everyone else.

  3. Is that an increase of 23.98 over what we pay now?

  4. From the staff report at the council meeting last night, the increase amounts to 0.62 cents on residential three cart system. Instead of getting after the City here regarding your greenwaste collection, just call the office and talk with Rob Johnson or Allen Yun - they are both very helpful. If you are paying for greenwaste and not getting the collection, it would be helpful to share that with the City as well so it can be adjusted.

  5. We don't get a green waste bin in Sun City. Why not?
