Each month we anxiously look forward to the unveiling of the five fantastic Students of the month. With the 2011-2012 school year coming to a close, May honored five very special Students of the Year instead.
On May 23rd an honorary dinner, hosted by Menifee Valley and Perris Valley Chambers of Commerce at the Sizzler Restaurant in Lake Elsinore, was held to acknowledge these five local students and to hear their tales of success and triumph.
These exemplarily students out shone entire student bodies and were therefore recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and presented with not only goodie bags packed full of certificates and gifts, but a $2,460 scholarship as well.
Local businesses and organizations that so generously donate to the Student of the Month each month all school year long really upped the ante with a cash scholarship for the Students of the Year.
In turn, students were able to share from their heart what it meant to them to receive this award and express their gratitude for the support from family and community.

Ryane will attend Cal State San Marcos and then transfer to California Baptist College to study kinesiology.
Perris High School: Christina Estrada
Christina made a point to thank the sponsors for all of their support for the program throughout the year, noting that while they don’t have to donate, they give because they care.
She shared how humbling it is to receive the Student of the Year Award over so many deserving students at her school.
She plans to attend UCLA where she will major in mathematics to become a teacher or professor. She also plans to continue her community involvement throughout college.
California Military Institute: Kiyhanna Gipson
Principal/ Commandant of CMI, Richard Wallis, introduced Kiyhanna by explaining how she not only exemplifies but excels in the 3 essential pillars of character: leadership and involvement, academics, and athletics.
He went on to boast, that while she is very quiet by nature, her effort never goes unnoticed as she always does her very best. Kiyhanna humbly accepted her recognition and thanked all of her supporters.
She will attend Penn State with plans to transfer to the University of Arizona to study pediatric medicine.
Perris Lake High School: Mischel Martinez

The new self-assured Mischel became ASB president and was able to lead others by example. Her “I don’t care” attitude was beautifully morphed into the caring, leader she is today and she shared the joy that this has brought her.
