Last Tuesday, the Menifee City Council awarded certificates of recognition to three local kids who won their respective age categories in the Menifee Writing Contest.
The contest, which was sponsored by Menifee 24/7 and the Arts Council Menifee, asked children to write an essay of no more than 200 words, with the subject being "What I Like About Menifee".
We received nearly 100 entries.
Many of the entries contained the sweetest essays, with the kind of charm only fresh young minds can make.
Our judges, Gayle DuRivage of Painted Earth, Shirley Wible of Sun City Library, and Doug Spoon, writer and columnist for Menifee 24/7, read through all entries, and came up with three winners: Abbey D Chea, Jonathan Hoefler, and Daniel Diaz.
There was a fourth winner, Jemena Nesbitt who received "Special Recognition" for having written what judges felt was the best essay overall, but couldn't consider it for the contest because it was well over the 200 word limit.
Each winner received a gift package worth $175.00, consisting of the following...
$15.00 iTunes gift card from Brian Walker Farmers Insurance
$15.00 gift certificate to Painted Earth
$20.00 gift certificate to Menifee Valley Community Cupboard Thrift Store
One large pizza from Pizano's Pizza
One meal at Provecho Grill
$25.00 gift card to Best Buy
Two tickets to the Lake Elsinore Storm
$50.00 gift card to Game Stop (courtesy of Menifee 24/7)
$10.00 in notebooks, pens, pencils (courtesy of Too Much Tina)
On top of that, the winners will have lunch with Mayor John Denver at Breakfast Club of Menifee.
In addition, everyone who entered into the contest will be awarded a gift card for a free taco at Provecho Grill. Participants must visit the Arts Showcase at Countryside Marketplace, Saturday, May 18, during the afternoon to claim their gift card.
