Some dog breeds are more commonly found in shelters than others, usually mixed breeds and loveable mutts. So it is fairly rare to find a pure bred dog, let alone a young Doberman pinscher.
Today’s beautiful dog is available for adoption from Animal Friends of Valleys.
Adoptable pet of the week, Sophie.
Name: Sophie
Breed: Doberman pinscher
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female, spayed
Temperament: Sophie is an absolute sweetheart. Her demeanor is extremely gentle and loving. The mark of a good house pet is one that is calm and submissive and Sophie wholeheartedly exudes both qualities.
She plays well with her black lab roommate at her temporary home in AFV. She also likes cats, children, and is good with seniors. She likes to ride in the car and can be left alone inside your home.
She is obedient, so she will pick up new cues quickly. For some unknown reason, she does not like to have her ears touched.
Sophie’s story: Sophie was surrendered by her elderly owner because she became too much to handle in addition to her other dogs. Since she is a bigger dog she needs exercise everyday and playtime to expend all that energy.
Animal Friends of the Valley encourages families looking to adopt to bring their existing pets in for a meet and greet with the potential new dog.
This way the environment is neutral for the initial introduction, and your pets won’t feel threatened in their own home.
If you're not ready to adopt but still want to help there are lots of ways to contribute including: temporarily fostering a pet and volunteering. Contact AVF for details.
