The Menifee Valley Flyers, a local organization promoting radio controlled model aviation, recently announced registration information for its Tenth Annual Spring Fun Fly.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 28 at the Menifee Valley Flyers Airfield, located at the top of a hill overlooking Menifee Road near Simpson Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and flying at 9 a.m. All Academy of Model Aviation pilots are eligible to participate for a $10 entry fee.
The general public is invited to come and watch the action. Admission and parking are free. Refreshments will be available and a raffle will take place.
Ray Gould, the organization's president, said the group has nearly 100 members and is reaching out to young flyers through various youth programs. Some pilots of these radio controlled planes and helicopters are as young as 6.
Throughout the year, group members serve as instructors for those interested in flying model aircraft. Practice and competitions take place at the group's airfield, which includes a 350-foot runway and six pilot stations.
Prizes will be awarded for excellence in various flying techniques.
