We love our furry friends year round, but February in particular seeks to draw a little more attention to the growing problem of homeless animals. February is Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, or Prevent a Litter Month, with February 28th as the official World Spay Day.
Millions of pets are euthanized every year simply because there are not enough homes or shelters to house them. Spaying and neutering your pet is the easiest solution to help end overpopulation and ultimately the killing of innocent animals.
In addition, many pet owners don’t realize that fixing your animal not only prevents unwanted litters but also is beneficial to your pet. Their chance of getting cancer and other diseases greatly decreases, as does their inclination towards undesirable activities such as marking their territory.
Animal Friends of the Valleys offers low cost spay and neuter subsidies and referrals. They can also provide financial help and transportation assistance to those who qualify. For more information please contact AFV at (951) 674-0618.
Surprising Fact:
Each day in the United States 10,000 babies are born, and each day in the US 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. Continuing at this rate, the simple truth is that there are just not enough homes for all of these animals and the majority will have to be put down.
