Menifee 24/7 is dedicated to providing the city of Menifee with up to the minute news and community happenings. Charitable organizations are vital to keeping our community connected and helping to spread compassion.
With that being said, another fun feature we would like to introduce to the site is non-profit of the month, highlighting those giving back and contributing to the well being of Menifee and its residents.
We start out the year with Menifee Sun City Concern. MSCC has been working to provide care and supportive resources to the community’s senior citizens and disabled for thirty-eight years. They have made it their mission to support independent living for as long as possible with an additional peace of mind for those at risk.
Serving Menifee, Sun City, and surrounding areas the organization offers five main programs each aimed at assisting the elderly in areas they have deemed necessary.
1. Information and Referral.
The first program is an information and referral system, which helps answer questions people may have concerning filling out forms, finding phone numbers, and financial services. The service locates information and then directs the individual with where and how to complete their inquiry.
2. Directory.
MSCC prescreens potential service vendors, including a full background check, and then compiles a list of approved business.
Merchants include anything that might require an individual to come out to a senior’s residence, such as: carpenters, plumbers, housekeepers, drivers, etc. MSCC then follows up with a personal phone call after the service has been completed to make sure the experience was satisfactory.
3. Outreach.
MSCC is especially aware of the living conditions and safety of seniors, as well as their continued ability to care for themselves. The outreach program evaluates the client’s home, including their medical equipment and nursing needs, and then makes recommendations to the family concerning changes and upgrades that should be made to their living environment.
4. Reassurance.
The telephone reassurance program provides a monitoring system for the elderly living on their own who are shut-ins, frail, or at risk. The system calls them three times every single day to assure they are okay.
If they do not answer after several attempts to contact them, then proper steps are taken to physically check on their well being.
5. Gate keeper.
The gatekeeper program trains employees and members of local businesses and public places to recognize signs of at-risk adults and how to report these individuals so they can receive assistance and appropriate care.
Aimed at simply making the community safer for the senior population, all services Menifee Sun City Concern provides are offered at no charge to the client. Receiving 2,300 calls each month and functioning as a nonprofit, the organization exists through contributions.
Their largest ongoing fundraiser is weekly Bingo at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center. Everyone eighteen years and older is welcome. Come on out and support the wonderful Concern cause.
