The day before Thanksgiving Sandy Aldridge of the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard received an unexpected call from Pechanga Casino.
On the other end of the line PR Director for the casino, Leslie Renkin, generously informed Sandy of their intention to donate four hundred turkeys to the cupboard.
Later Wednesday evening a giant refrigerator truck delivered the frozen birds to the Cupboard, where volunteers took several hours to unload and put away the entirety of the donation.
In speaking with Sandy after the last turkey had been safely tucked away into the Cupboard’s freezer, exhausted and still slightly shocked she remarked, “I don’t know what to say, it was so generous and unexpected of them.”
Some of the turkeys were distributed to less fortunate families in the Menifee Valley and helped to give many homes a little more to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.
However, the majority of the four hundred turkeys were given out on Saturday, December 17 as part of the food distribution the Cupboard put on to give families in need prepackaged Christmas dinner feasts.
Tis the season for giving.
